About the Photographer

Portrait of the Photographer

Ingrid Saaliste is an award winning Ontario based photographer specializing in wildlife and floral along with expressive land and waterscapes. She believes that experiencing nature's beauty has the power to nourish and unify us, on both an emotional and spiritual level. The current that underlies her artwork is the concept of preservation. She makes every effort to visually capture the true reality of nature in its natural habitat. Objectively, her quest is to find the unseen in the visible and aesthetically present it to the viewer. This she believes, is the essence of photography.

Her fine art prints combine tranquil settings, vivid colours and a unique perspective of the environment.

"I've captured a moment, mixing together the colours and textures of nature, to create a passionate and unique memory of that moment, as is."

Evident in her work, Ingrid Saaliste's love of nature comes from spending summers at her Georgian Bay cottage near Honey Harbour. She can often be found in the morning and at dusk in her kayak capturing the glorious scenes that she is known for. She favours nature and travel photography, owing her inspiration from the late Galen Rowell, and Dr. Roberta Bondar's "Passionate Vision."

A graduate of the New York Institute of Photography, Ingrid studied under Richard Martin and Joe Bevilaqua. Her spectacular scenics of Georgian Bay have won numerous awards in juried fine art shows and corporate competitions. Several art galleries represent her work including the Liss Gallery in Toronto, the Wellington Gallery (Aurora, ON), Young's Point Loft Gallery, and the Right Side Gallery in Penetanguishene, which she owns. Her photographs hang in private, government and corporate collections (Canada, United States, Europe, Middle East and Australia) and have been exhibited internationally as well as locally at the McMichael Gallery Autumn Art Sale, Buckhorn Wildlife Art Festival, Midland Waterfest Fine Art Show, and the upcoming Ottawa Fine Art Festival. The flagship Timothy's café at First Canadian Place in Toronto, and Amicci's Restaurant in Honey Harbour also display her beautiful images.

Ingrid's image "Rock'n'Rose" is published on the cover of the Southern Georgian Bay Visitor Guide 2007, and her image "Overlooked" is published in the January/February 2007 issue of Camera Arts magazine.

Ingrid's images are archival, taken with a digital SLR camera and are printed on special watercolour paper using pigment inks (giclée's). They are then released as limited editions only. Ingrid also presents her images mounted on art cards, which are available in many stores throughout Ontario, Quebec, Colorado and Florida.
